The Advantages of Roll Forming for Sheet Metal-Based Parts

Almost all kinds of sheet metal can be formed by roll forming. The process allows tight tolerances and repeatability, making it ideal for mass production of sheet metal-based components. An array of roll-forming stations enables serial production of identical components, providing significant economies of scale for large-scale production.

Roll forming is the process of passing sheet metal through a series of rollers to flatten, bend and form the sheet metal into the desired profile. Once the desired shape is obtained, the metal is cleaned, anodized, detailed machined and cut to the desired length.

Almost any metal can be roll formed as long as the material has the properties to withstand the roll forming die without damage. It can form sheets of steel, aluminum, titanium, copper and many others. This process is very versatile and can produce any desired profile shape. The process can also cut, punch, or weld in line or emboss, drill holes in the final product, and perform any number of finishing processes.
